a question for the girls...about the girls

So I need a really, really supportive strapless bra to wear under my wedding dress. Well, strapless bra or like a bustier thingie. Bustier sounds so douchey. Anyway. HALP.

When I say I want it to be really supportive, I mean REALLY supportive. I'm trying to think of a tasteful way to say I have big boobs but I can't so SOOOOORRYYYYYY.

Also, bonus points if it's actually comfortable.

Thank you in advance. I am bad at being a girl.

  1. Alas, as chairwoman of the IBTC, I cannot provide help. :) But let me know if you have questions more in my area of expertise, like, about LOST or something.

  2. MG!, why was Walt special? Just kidding, I'm sure we'll never find out.

  3. I am also bad at being a girl, and I also need.. ahem... the support you seek. I don't know if you have an Intimacy (dumb name) store near you, but I found the fitters there to be great! They knew what they were talking about when it came to girls who need something more than cupcake liners as far as support goes.(Hello: Vicky's? I'm looking at you) They were also willing to order things - like strapless bras - for special occasions and what not. I liked the store so much that I have - more than once - braved a hoity toity mall to get there (Seriously: did you know that Hugo Boss had a store you could actually shop at? I did not.) If there isn't a store near you, their website has a good list of recommended shops in places all over the country. (And online, but I think that would be iffy, without a good return policy.)

I know bra shopping can suck, but I hope you should be able to find what you're looking for ~ fingers crossed for comfortable!

  4. Joe, you just made me laugh and then feel bad about myself for not being able to answer a question in my self-proclaimed area of expertise. Damn. That's what I get for being proud. :)

  5. I can't lay claim to having big you-know-whats, but I am medium-sized, which actually counts as being big in the skinny-girl camp. Anyway, I would recommend Victoria's Secret because they are pretty ubiquitous and they CAN help you if you find the right person. I have generally had good experiences at VS. The trick is usually to find an associate who has a build similar to your own (if you don't find what you like/need, as in NTE's experience, simply ask to speak to someone else or go to a different location). But if there is an Intimacy location near you, go for it! I would get a corset bra, were I you, as they offer the most support and shaping and are more comfortable as long as you get a good fit around the torso.

  6. Did you ask at the bridal shop? I couldn't tell you the brand of bustier I used, but I do remember 2 things: 1) it was very comfortable and sturdy under my dress, and 2) it was actually a bit cheaper than something I would've bought at Vicky's and way better quality.

They can probably help you find what you need.

  7. If you find one, let me know. Supportive and comfortable just don't seem to go together.
